My college (IIT Bombay) alumni association has a program called HATS which, among other things, provides retirement benefits for mess workers (kitchen staff), since the institute (to its discredit) treats them as contractors and doesn't pay out benefits when they retire, despite years of service.

I just discovered that they also went through past records and have now paid the same benefits to every single mess worker who had retired before the fund was set up. Such a beautiful thing to do.
