i've stared at this picture so many times and never been able to figure out how exactly it resolved to a cat. finally found a good explanation:

That's really hilarious, but any photographer who had taken a lot of pictures of black cats and was used to processing them would be able to see the cat's left eye in the shadows there.

I'm not a photographer, but having spotted that the "beak" was an ear, I was able to see that eye after looking at the picture a bit, knowing that it had to be roughly in that spot.

I have a photogenic jet-black cat so it took me a second to figure out how that resolved to a bird.

I keep looking at this now, and, although I did see it as a crow initially, once I saw the cat, it's become very hard for me to see the crow. If I only look at the very top of it, I can almost resolve the crow again. But that eye really looks like a cat's eye. And the inside of the ear really looks like a cat's ear. And I keep seeing the cat's nose, and the cat's left eye (and, of course, if I look down further, the tail). And the cat is sitting in what is pretty obviously a kitchen, begging in front of some kitchen fixture, looking pleadingly up, "Feed me?" There's just so much kittiness about this photo, it's so difficult to believe now that I could ever have seen it as a crow.
